Democracy hinges on informed citizens, and an informed citizenry relies on a media that serves the public without bias. Yet, as we approach the 2024 election, there's mounting evidence that the media is acting less as an impartial source of information and more as a propaganda machine, hand-picking narratives to manipulate public perception. The situation has become so dire that some argue the media could be the deciding factor in this election, not the voters themselves.
Take Kamala Harris, for instance. Nearly 70% of Democrats are reportedly unaware of her policies. How could a candidate, now the centerpiece of the Democratic Party, be so unknown? Simple: strategic obfuscation. The Democrats have chosen to keep Harris out of the public eye, relying instead on media allies to deflect attention to Donald Trump. Harris's policy positions remain as elusive as ever, leaving the public to guess at what she truly stands for. The media's role in this strategy is clear: they're more interested in attacking Trump than scrutinizing Harris.
But this isn’t a one-off incident. The bias of the mainstream media has been on full display throughout the campaign, nowhere more so than in the debates. Political commentator Noah Pollack nailed it when he said the recent Trump-Harris debate was "pure political bias." ABC News, far from moderating the discussion, seemed to be actively rooting against Trump, creating a lopsided event that was more trial than debate. It’s clear: the media wants Harris to win, and they’re doing everything in their power to make sure she does.
Harris’s rise to prominence defies logic. In 2020, she was one of the least favored candidates, and she dropped out of the race early. Her approval ratings were dismal, and many Democrats considered her a liability. Now, after being crowned the Democratic nominee, she has suddenly become the "golden child" of the party. It’s as if the media collectively decided to forget her past failures. Had it not been for the media’s protection, her candidacy would have been dismissed long ago. Yet here she is, with a legitimate shot at the presidency, thanks to relentless media support.
The power of the media to shape public opinion is not a new phenomenon. Advertisers pay millions for just 30 seconds of airtime during the Super Bowl because they know that media exposure works. If that’s the case, why wouldn’t the media’s constant airbrushing of Kamala Harris’s record have a similar effect? Propaganda, when wielded effectively, can move mountains—and elections.
When the media becomes biased, democracy suffers. A neutral press is essential to a functioning democracy. Without it, we risk descending into a system where elections are decided not by voters but by media conglomerates with their own agendas. The media, at its worst, can become a propaganda machine, churning out deception, fake news, and politically driven narratives designed to manipulate voters.
Propaganda has long been a tool of those in power. Hitler’s Nazi regime was a masterclass in using the media to control public opinion, with figures like Josef Goebbels overseeing the manipulation of information. Modern propaganda may not be as overt, but its impact is just as dangerous. The media today has the power to sway elections by controlling the narrative, painting Trump as a villain while portraying Harris as a savior. If this isn't propaganda, what is?
The parallels to history are chilling. The use of mass media to create an alternate reality is not new. Hitler used radio and cinema to mold German minds, and in the U.S. today, cable news and social media serve the same purpose. There’s no need for overt censorship when you can simply drown out the truth with carefully crafted narratives, just as they’re doing with Kamala Harris.
Perhaps the most blatant example of media manipulation came during the 2016 election, when the left-wing media, armed with the now-debunked Steele dossier, tried to paint Donald Trump as a Russian puppet. Despite a two-year investigation, no evidence of collusion was found. Yet, the damage was done. The media had succeeded in convincing a large portion of the population that Trump’s presidency was illegitimate. They weren’t done, though. They orchestrated another frenzy over Hunter Biden’s laptop, with "experts" falsely claiming it was Russian disinformation, only for it to be proven authentic. But by then, the media’s narrative had already been set, aiding the Biden campaign.
And the manipulation continues. Trump is now facing numerous lawsuits—coincidentally, all in an election year. Yet, the media has chosen to downplay any connections between these legal maneuvers and the Biden administration, conveniently ignoring meetings between prosecutors and Biden officials. What we’re witnessing is not justice; it’s lawfare, enabled by a complicit press.
This is propaganda 101. When a media outlet aligns itself with one political party, it stops being a watchdog and becomes a marketing machine. The goal is not to inform but to persuade—and in the case of the 2024 election, to tilt the scales in favor of Kamala Harris.
As Americans, we must be vigilant. We cannot afford to let the media dictate who should lead our nation. It’s time to hold the press accountable, demand unbiased reporting, and seek out the truth. The fate of democracy depends on it.
