PERSPECTIVE: PART 1 - The Double Standards of the Progressive Left: Weaponizing the Department of Justice Against Donald Trump

Updated: Jun 9

The recent judgment against former President Donald Trump highlights a troubling pattern of double standards within our justice system, driven by the progressive left. The handling of this case exemplifies a blatant denial of Trump's right to a fair trial. From the outset, the trial was compromised, starting with Judge Merchan's conflict of interest due to his daughter's business connections and financial gains linked to the case. Additionally, Judge Merchan's political contributions to Trump's opponents and anti-Trump organizations should have necessitated his recusal. However, he chose to preside over the trial, undermining its integrity.

The foundation of the case rested on the testimony of Michael Cohen, a man convicted of perjury, tax evasion, bank fraud, and campaign finance violations. Cohen's credibility is highly questionable, and he stands to gain financially from a Trump conviction. The trial's impartiality was further compromised by the jury's demographic composition and the judge's denial of the defense's expert witness, who could have exonerated Trump. The entire proceeding was a travesty, reflecting a deeply flawed judicial process.

This case sets a dangerous precedent, revealing that written laws are subject to interpretation by those in power. The Trump case demonstrated that the statute of limitations can be selectively applied, transforming misdemeanors into felonies based on a conflicted judge's interpretation. This precedent opens the door for charges against other political figures, such as Bill Clinton for paying off his accusers and Joe Biden for allegations of sexual abuse and illicit payments from foreign governments. Moreover, from 1997 to 2017, Congress paid $17 million in taxpayer money to settle sexual harassment claims; these cases deserve equal scrutiny.

The human aspect of this situation cannot be overlooked. Trump has denied any sexual encounter with Stormy Daniels, and she has also denied it. Even if such an encounter occurred, it only proves that Trump, like many others, made a mistake. He betrayed his family, which is inexcusable. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that Trump is human and susceptible to sin and temptation. Throughout history, flawed leaders have been used by God for greater purposes. King David, an adulterer and murderer, and the Apostle Paul, a former persecutor and murderer of Christians, are examples of how God can redeem even the most flawed individuals.

Romans 3:23 reminds us that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." This includes Trump, Biden, and every one of us. There is hope in the grace offered through Christ's redemption, as stated in Romans 3:24. Dysfunction does not define our standing before God, and sin is an inherent part of the human condition. The Gospel teaches us that forgiveness is available to all who seek it. Matthew 6:14-15 emphasizes the importance of forgiving others if we expect to be forgiven ourselves.

In conclusion, the judgment against Donald Trump reveals a disturbing pattern of double standards and a weaponized justice system. The trial's compromised integrity, selective application of laws, and the human aspect of sin and redemption highlight the need for a more just and fair judicial process. As we hold our leaders accountable, we must also extend grace and forgiveness, recognizing that we are all flawed and in need of redemption. "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone" (John 8:7).
