A Preventable Tragedy: The Death of Laken Riley and Others Expose the Failures of the Biden-Harris Immigration Policies

Updated: Oct 15, 2024

The tragic death of Laken Riley, a young nursing student from Georgia, shocked the nation in February of this year. The alleged perpetrator, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, raises questions about the safety and security of the American public in the face of the current administration's immigration policies. Former President Bill Clinton made a surprising admission that the murder of Laken Riley could have been prevented had her killer been "properly vetted." It is a startling acknowledgment, one that highlights the flaws in the Biden-Harris administration's approach to immigration.

Clinton's Admission: A Rare Moment of Truth

It is not often that high-profile politicians admit to policy failures, but Clinton's comments are a clear indication of just how serious the situation has become. By acknowledging that the Biden-Harris administration's lax immigration policies played a role in this tragedy, Clinton has inadvertently confirmed what many Americans have feared: the failure to properly vet illegal immigrants is costing lives. As Vice President, Kamala Harris was tasked with overseeing the border crisis, yet her leadership has been ineffective at best. Laken Riley’s life might have been spared if proper procedures had been in place.

At the same event where Clinton made this admission, he also attempted to justify mass immigration by arguing that America is "not having enough babies to keep the population up," and therefore, we need vetted immigrants to fill the workforce. While this may sound logical on the surface, it masks deeper, more complex issues that need to be addressed.

In full disclosure, Clinton tried to blame Trump; however, neither the so-called “bipartisan Senate border bill” nor the recent executive order on asylum would have done anything to prevent these tragedies.

Issue 1: The True Cost of Mass Immigration

Clinton’s remarks reveal the underlying objective of the Democratic Party’s immigration policies: to import workers willing to accept lower wages, effectively filling jobs that Americans would otherwise do if they were paid a fair wage. The policy of open borders has led to a flood of illegal immigrants who often compete for jobs with American citizens, resulting in wage suppression. Employers exploit the vulnerability of illegal immigrants, paying them far below what is considered a living wage for Americans. This has created a modern economic system that, while not called "slavery," closely resembles the indentured servitude of the past. Americans are left unemployed or underemployed, while corporations profit from a labor force that has little recourse for fair treatment or legal protections.

This policy benefits corporations but leaves average Americans struggling. The continued influx of illegal immigrants places downward pressure on wages, creating an economic environment where citizens are displaced by cheaper labor. What Clinton frames as a necessity for economic growth is, in reality, a policy that favors big business while undermining the American worker, and taking unfair advantage of immigrants.

Issue 2: The Abortion Factor

Clinton's assertion that America needs more immigrants because it isn’t producing enough babies overlooks a critical factor: the staggering number of abortions performed in the United States. In 2023, over one million abortions were performed, according to the Guttmacher Institute. This is the highest number in over a decade. The loss of over a million potential lives annually raises an obvious question: if we were not terminating these lives, would we really need to rely on mass immigration to maintain population growth?

The Democratic Party has long championed access to abortion, yet it simultaneously calls for mass immigration to solve the population problem that abortion contributes to. This contradiction is hard to ignore. If the U.S. were more focused on supporting families and encouraging population growth from within, rather than relying on immigration to fill the gaps, we might not face the demographic challenges Clinton highlights.

Issue 3: Securing a Permanent Political Majority

Another critical issue surrounding mass immigration is the potential for political manipulation. Democrats are not only providing luxury accommodations—such as hotel rooms, free meals, and health care—to migrants but are also pushing to allow noncitizens to vote in local elections in cities like New York, Boston, and other municipalities. The intention here is to gain a permanent voting bloc that ensures their political dominance.

While many Americans may be shocked by the sheer number of migrants crossing the southern border, Democrats appear to view this as a political opportunity. They may feign distress about the record number of border crossings, but their policies and rhetoric suggest otherwise. These newcomers are seen as the key to securing a lasting political majority—not years from now, when they become citizens, but in the immediate future through local elections.

By pushing to allow noncitizens to vote, Democrats hope to solidify their influence and ensure that their policies remain unchallenged at the local level. This, combined with the unchecked influx of migrants, represents not only a failure of governance but a calculated strategy to reshape the political landscape in their favor.

In the end, these policies undermine the very foundation of democracy, where the rights and responsibilities of citizenship are supposed to be earned, not handed out as part of a political maneuver. Americans must question the long-term consequences of allowing noncitizens to vote and recognize the broader strategy at play.

Issue 4: Collateral Damage and Acceptable Sacrifices

Clinton's comments also suggest an unsettling acceptance of "collateral damage." When mass immigration policies are implemented without proper vetting, the consequences are real and devastating. The Democratic Party often refers to these tragedies as "unintended consequences" or "necessary sacrifices" for the greater good. But what does it mean when the lives of American citizens, like Laken Riley, become expendable in the name of political goals?

The Biden-Harris administration’s failure to enforce existing immigration laws has resulted in the release of dangerous individuals into American communities. According to official reports, the administration knowingly released 425,431 convicted criminal illegal immigrants into the U.S., including 13,099 convicted of homicide and 15,811 convicted of sexual assault. These are not just numbers; they represent preventable tragedies, families torn apart by violence that should never have occurred.

Laken Riley is not the only victim. Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old girl from Houston, was brutally murdered by two Venezuelan nationals who had recently entered the U.S. illegally. Similar stories, like the rape and murder of Rachel Morin in Maryland and the assault of a 13-year-old girl in New York, point to a pattern of violence that could have been prevented with proper immigration enforcement.

The Hard Truths of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Failures

As the House Committee on Homeland Security has pointed out, these tragedies were avoidable. Four hard truths stand out regarding the Biden-Harris administration's approach to immigration:

1. Ending Proven Policies: The administration dismantled policies such as the "Remain in Mexico" program and safe third-country agreements, which had successfully reduced asylum fraud and kept dangerous individuals out of the U.S. They also ended Title 42, which allowed for the quick expulsion of individuals during the pandemic.

2. Inadequate Vetting: Border agents are overwhelmed and lack the time to thoroughly vet the vast numbers of illegal immigrants crossing the border. Many immigrants slip through the cracks due to the lack of resources and information-sharing between countries.

3. Lack of Detention Space: Despite the increasing numbers of illegal crossings, the administration has requested fewer detention beds. In 2023, thousands of ICE detention beds went unused, and many illegal immigrants were released with little oversight.

4. Faulty Legislative Solutions: The administration’s proposed border bills and executive orders do little to address the root problems, allowing more individuals to be released into the U.S. without proper vetting or oversight.

Conclusion: Accountability is Long Overdue

The tragic loss of Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, Rachel Morin, and others serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of failed immigration policies. While we must honor their lives and refrain from using their deaths for political gain, we must also hold the Biden-Harris administration accountable for the policies that have allowed these tragedies to occur. It is not enough to offer thoughts and prayers; action must be taken to ensure that these preventable deaths become a thing of the past.

Until then, how many more lives will be sacrificed in the name of political expediency? How many more families will suffer the loss of a loved one due to the failure of those in power to enforce the laws they swore to uphold? The American people and the victims families deserve answers—and they deserve justice.

Disclaimer:

The inclusion of the names Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, and Rachel Morin in this article is done with the utmost respect and compassion for the victims and their families. This piece is not intended to score political points, but to expose the devastating consequences of poor governance during the Biden-Harris administration. As Chairman of House Homeland GOP, Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN), expressed, “My heart aches for these women and their families and loved ones. These tragedies could have been avoided if the Biden-Harris administration would simply enforce the laws they swore to uphold. It’s truly that simple. Americans no longer feel safe in their own communities and neighborhoods. It does not have to be this way."

Our hope is that Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, and Rachel Morin, and so many others are forever remembered, and that their tragic deaths serve as a wake-up call for meaningful change. May their names be honored, and may their passing not be in vain.
