Ah, Steph Curry—a basketball icon, a three-point machine, and someone you’d expect to stand firm on principles. Unfortunately, while he’s sinking shots from downtown, his grasp on Christian teachings seems to have bricked hard off the rim. Recently, Curry decided to leap into the political arena, endorsing Kamala Harris for president. Why? Because, according to him, "a woman’s right to choose" is at the top of his list going into the election.
Now, as much as I admire Steph for his basketball skills, this is where I’ve got to hit pause. It seems like Curry has been dribbling down the court of “woke Christianity,” where feelings and the crowd’s opinions outweigh biblical truth. He talks about a women's right to choose, but fails to speak about a baby's right to choose. Steph, I know you’re sincere, but in this case, you're sincerely wrong.
A Christian Stance… on Abortion?
In his interview with CNBC, Curry doubled down on his support for Harris, claiming that women should have the right to “choose what’s right for them.” I can’t help but wonder if Steph missed the part in the Bible that explicitly says human life is sacred—yes, even life in the womb. "Thou shalt not kill" doesn’t come with any subtext or fine print about “unless it’s politically convenient."
What makes this more disappointing is that Steph Curry is openly Christian, often sharing his faith. But here we are, watching him align with an administration that can’t even define what a woman is, much less defend the value of human life. Remember, Kamala Harris is part of the same administration that uses terms like "birthing people" instead of “women” and can't seem to find clarity on basic biology. But hey, let’s not let pesky things like the truth get in the way of a good political endorsement, right Steph?
From Courtside to Political Pandering
Curry's newfound "conviction" feels about as authentic as a politician's campaign promises. Let’s rewind to just two years ago: Steph wasn’t pro-life, he wasn’t pro-choice—he was… neutral. How convenient. He didn’t feel the need to speak up when Roe v. Wade was overturned, but now suddenly, women’s rights are at the top of his list?
But wait, it gets better. This is the same guy who opposed low-income housing in his wealthy Atherton neighborhood. That’s right, while championing "women’s rights" in public, he privately fought to keep less fortunate women and families out of his ritzy neighborhood. Apparently, supporting women’s rights doesn’t extend to helping them find affordable housing near his multi-million-dollar mansion.
You have to love the irony here. Steph Curry, who endorses the same politicians that talk about social justice and equity, doesn’t want that equity anywhere near his backyard. In public, it's all about empowerment. In private? "Not in my neighborhood." If this isn’t the height of hypocrisy, I don’t know what is.
Woke Theology or Biblical Truth?
Curry’s stance is just another example of woke Christianity—a misguided attempt to blend biblical teachings with the current social trends, even when they’re at odds with each other. But you can’t reconcile Christianity with supporting abortion, any more than you can reconcile supporting democracy while advocating for dictatorship. And that’s exactly what Curry is trying to do: mix oil and water, claiming to stand for biblical truth while bowing to the altar of the woke agenda.
The Bible speaks clearly about life and its sanctity. Yet, Curry seems more concerned with appealing to the woke culture than standing up for the Christian values he claims to follow. It’s almost like Steph is sitting in the bleachers, watching the game unfold, while refusing to pick a side—until the woke crowd gives him the signal, of course.
Standing Up for… What Exactly?
Let’s not forget, this isn’t Curry’s first dive into political waters. His wife, Ayesha, has been vocal about social justice, using all the right buzzwords like "racial inequality" and "injustice." But just like her husband, when it came time to do something about those injustices—like allowing affordable housing in their neighborhood—it was a hard pass. Seems like the Curry family only supports social causes when it’s good for the brand.
And now, Steph is endorsing an administration that not only advocates for abortion but can’t even define basic concepts like "woman." Remember when Kamala Harris and her party defended the idea of “birthing people”? When Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson couldn’t define what a woman is during her confirmation hearing? Yeah, that’s the kind of leadership Steph Curry is rallying behind.
Even more troubling, this administration, which Curry seems so enamored with, allowed a trans man to expose himself at a White House event last year. It’s becoming clearer by the day that the people Curry endorses have a skewed, if not outright dangerous, understanding of women’s rights. But hey, as long as Steph’s public image stays intact, who cares, right?
The Final Play
At the end of the day, Steph Curry’s endorsement of Kamala Harris is a sad reminder of what happens when Christians try to blend faith with woke ideology. You end up with contradictions and hypocrisy so glaring that even a casual observer can see it. Curry’s support for Harris is nothing more than pandering to the woke culture, a desperate attempt to stay in the good graces of the crowd.
But here’s the thing: Christianity isn’t about following the crowd. It’s about following the truth—even when it’s unpopular, even when it costs you something. And in this case, Curry has chosen the crowd over Christ.
So while I’ll always respect Steph as a basketball legend, his political and moral stance? That’s a complete airball.
Disclaimer/Disclosure:
As 1 Timothy 1:15 reminds me, "Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief." I want to be clear that I am in no position to pass judgment on Steph Curry, Kamala Harris, or anyone else for that matter. I have made mistakes in my life that I deeply regret. However, through God's grace and His sacrifice on the cross, I am forgiven. My Christian faith is the foundation of my life, and it takes precedence over everything else.
When our time on earth is over, it won’t be the wealth we’ve accumulated or the titles we’ve held that will matter. Instead, what will matter is how we lived our lives, and whether we followed the principles that we claim to believe.
One of the most foundational truths is the sanctity of human life. Standing for this truth is not always easy, but it is vital—especially when the most vulnerable among us, unborn children, are at risk. Life is the most basic human right, and without it, no other rights can be enjoyed or protected.
To be pro-life is to affirm the inherent value of every human being, from conception onward. Every child, no matter how small or undeveloped, is made in the image of God. They are knit together in their mother’s womb, known by the Creator, and have a special calling from God. As Christians, we are called to stand up for those who cannot stand for themselves.
While I understand and respect that others may hold different views, I stand firm in my conviction to protect the lives of the innocent and the unborn. I believe abortion is not a solution, but the ultimate exploitation of women and the most vulnerable among us—innocent babies who deserve the right to life.
